A usually underused and under invested channel is the actual software you sell.
Adding relevant tips, calls to actions, reminders, and announcements in the software can be great way to generate leads, pipeline, and identify advocates. Here are my five favorite plays.
Show upgrade prompts at the moment users hit a usage limit or try to access a premium feature.
Use modals, banners, or tooltips to highlight new features, integrations, or improvements.
Tease premium features inside the UI with a lock icon, blurred view, or “Upgrade to unlock” tooltip. This markets the paid product without being pushy.
Show cards or tooltips that briefly explain how others in similar roles use the product effectively. This subtly markets advanced or premium workflows and inspires deeper use.
Use a visual progress bar to show how far a user has come—and how close they are to unlocking more value. Great for onboarding and promoting upgrades.
